Hej! We are Judith, Jan, Lua & Davi.
In January 2022, we decided to make a big leap. We found a beautiful piece of forest in Sweden. There were no buildings yet, only trees, and a dream is coming true as we build a small-scale eco forest retreat center and garden here.
One day I’ll make a new video with our youngest, Davi in it. For now, please check our social media pages :).
Update: we are having the best of times with our cherished Workaway volunteers! Want to join us? Check out our Workaway Host profile page.
We started off spending lots of time on the land, getting to know the neighbors, the wildlife, the plants and trees and mushrooms. Meeting with very helpful kommun officials and planning our next steps. At that time, we were still only three…
But then (because we felt so happy 😉 )… Judith got pregnant. Now we were double-blessed! But how to find the time to develop a forest, manage a household, earn a living, nourish our family, integrate in our new homeland?
Follow us as we move with the flow with life – we keep you posted here on our blog, in our newsletter and on social media.
Our vision is to live close to nature, tending to the land in a holistic and ecological way, while offering others the opportunity to relax, unwind and recharge in the silence of the forest as well.

When we started, there were only trees. By now, we have obtained permits and, with the help of friends and volunteers, started planning and building the heart of Ekamåla Nature Retreat: a spacious wooden ‘temple’, surrounded by forest, with a fantastic view on the lake.
Meanwhile, we will start growing a permaculture garden and food forest. So yes, we can use lots of help with building, gardening and clearing the trees! Options for participation will follow soon.
We recently changed our name to Ekamåla Nature Retreat.
Eka (sanskrit): one, oneness, unity; måla (swedish): designated place.
This name honors the roots of the land, by using its historical name Ekamåla, and expresses the intention we have with it: to share our love for nature, simplicity and peace.

Ekamåla Nature Retreat lies between Tingsryd, Urshult and Väckelsång at the north west side of lake Hyllen. Show larger map
